Team building and training are investments in your team’s productivity. They can often pay off geometrically in terms of increased revenues, time and cost savings, and increased productivity.

The interesting thing about winning investments is that when done early, they produce the highest returns. For example, if you had bought stock in Microsoft when the company first began trading, a few dollars invested became millions. If you waited until the company was well established, a much larger investment yielded a much smaller return.

Teambuilding & Leadership training investments work the same way. If we train early and provide skills, tools and resources to our team, they produce incredible results that can pay for the training hundreds of times over. If we wait until there are conflicts and problems or until the competition has made advances, the teambuilding and training still pays off, but not as much as it would have had we chosen to make the investment sooner.

It is an unfortunate glitch in our emotional and cultural programming that many of us wait until something is broken or problematic before taking steps to improve or fix it. It seems we often wait for the pain of a problem to force us to respond rather than taking proactive steps in the direction we know we must go.

Your people are your most valuable resource.  If you are like most businesses, your people are already your largest investment in your business.  You invest in recruiting them, hiring them, providing them office space and work materials.  You invest every day in their wages and/or salary.

Proactive leaders know that all of those investments yield a much higher return when you leverage them with an investment in training.
