CORPORATE TEAM BUILDING -
LEARNING TEAM BUILDING LESSONS
FROM GEESE

We can learn a lot about team building and working together as a team from geese.
Consider the following:

Fact #1

As each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird following it. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 76 percent greater flying range over one bird flying alone.

Team Building Lesson #1

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and more easily because the sum of their strengths together is greater than their sum individually.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fact #2

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation to make use of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.

Team Building Lesson #2

We will benefit when we stay in formation with those who are ahead of where we want to go and be willing to accept their help as well as give ours to others behind us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fact #3

When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position.

Team Building Lesson #3

It pays to take turns doing the hardest tasks and to share the duties of leadership.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fact #4

The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Team Building Lesson #4

We need to make sure our honking from behind is encouraging and supportive.

Positive attitude and support from all team members makes everyone better off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fact #5 –

When a goose gets sick or wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again, or dies. Then they launch out to catch up with their flock.

Team Building Lesson #5

If we have as much sense as geese do, we too, will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, we truly can learn about team building from geese. Follow their five simple lessons in your team and you will certainly notice improved connection, team work and productivity.
