New Jersey is a leading industrial state and is the largest chemical producing state in the nation.  It is the tenth most populous state, but the most densely populated, at 1,134.4 residents per square mile, although the population density varies widely across the state. New Jersey has the highest percent urban population in the U.S. with about 90% of the people living in an urban area.

During the American Revolutionary War, British and American armies crossed New Jersey numerous times and several pivotal battles took place in the state. As a result, today, New Jersey is often referred to as "The Crossroads of the Revolution.”

The first tin-foil phonograph developed by Thomas Edison was crude, but it proved his point-- that sound could be recorded and played back. Thomas Edison had phonograph demonstrations and became world-renowned as the "Wizard of Menlo Park" for this invention.

The four mile long Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey was not only the first, but to this day remains the world's largest.  And speaking of Boardwalk, the properties in the United States version of the board game Monopoly are named after the streets of Atlantic City.
